Walking Ain't Half So Bad

Yesterday was the annual Run Up for Down Syndrome.  My gorgeous friend Heather and I have done it every year for the past 4 years and it's always a blast!  And the past two years my wonderful boyfriend Dennis has won the thing *beams*.

This year Heather and I both had issues with our knees and decided to walk it rather than run it.  In past years it has taken us about 30 minutes to complete the 5Km run, and I wasn't really looking forward to walking that distance just because I thought it would take too long and I would get bored.

But lo and behold, it was actually a lot of fun.  So fun in fact that I walked another 5Km this morning.  I never thought I would enjoy walking as fitness just because I usually like to do really high intensity stuff and get it over with as soon as possible, but bootin' it all over town for an hour actually felt great.

What do you guys like to do for physical activity?

  1. I'm the same way, I thought I only liked high intensity workouts. But then I had Lucy and her stroller was sooo cumbersome and I was in no position to buy a jogging stroller so I just started walking and I loved it. I could just veer off into whatever store I wanted without being all nasty and get stuff done on the way - and just take a route with lots of hills when coming home to workout my legs.

no hills in edmonton :( I think I'm gonna try snow shoeing this winter though! I found one of those hiking backpacks for kids so I can throw Lulu on my back to make it 1000 times more difficult. We'll see how far I get before I get frostbite.

  2. I love showshoeing! You would like it. It's like walking only in the snow. Imagine that. But yeah, walking is pretty awesome. I went again today and it was good. I'm anxious to get a walking partner now (aka dog).

  3. Definitely get a dog! But get a girl dog. Boy dogs are dumb. It must be proven somewhere....

  4. What?! Boy dogs can be cute too. Let's just say, it's already near impossible to find a dog that we could have (awful allergies in this house) so I wouldn't be discriminating when it comes to male/female.

  5. hahahahahha. Boy dogs can totally be cute. But that's not what I said :P They're DUMBBBB! As bricks, too :P

But cute? Definitely. My boy dog was adorable (we had to give him to a farm! We couldn't move with two dogs..boooo). My girl dog is a badass. I take badass over cute :P

  6. But dumb dogs actually make better pets as far as I'm concerned. Smart dogs are always trying to outsmart you and think they're too smart to have to listen to you. But a dumb dog - they'll do whatever you say and love you for it. What could be better?! That being said, I've only ever had female dogs. Hahaha.

  7. hahaha. Niceee. And after thinking about what I said earlier - there is still a small part of me that thinks that MAYBE...just maybe...my boy dog was actually WAYYY smarter than my other dog (and me) and simply knew how to play it to his advantage. I will never know the truth as he's frolicking with cows now. Apparently he hasn't gotten any smarter - but maybe the people he's with now aren't any smarter than I was. He was so cute though :)
